Ashley Afferino

Ashley Afferino is all California, born and raised in the Heart of the Central Valley. Growing up on a farm raising various farm animals, she gravitated to that beautiful creature- the pig. After many county fairs, she relocated to the bay area on a Volleyball scholarship. As she juggled three jobs in Hospitality in order to make the ends meet while gaining her second degree of criminal law, she realized her true passion for spirits. College was not cheap- being behind a bar was her best way work smarter and after 8 years of schooling, she committed to Spirits, ready to get serious.. She attended seminars on distilling processes, familiarized herself with the histories of various cocktails. After flipping bottles in San Francisco for 5 years she relocated to West Hollywood where she assisted in opening a number of locations in her short 14 month stay there. After cocktail book after liquor book, she purchased a bar with her partner, in Martinez, California, naming it “Barrel Aged.” By this time she had visited every distillery in Kentucky, taught various educational courses on Beer to Whiskey, and had built up a collection of over 250 whiskies in their venue. The first rye on that bar was our own Whistle Pig 10 Year. She knew the story, loved the taste and was proud to have it prominently placed on her bar. WhistlePig’s Dave Pickerell offered Ashley even more exposure through the experimental phases of the Whistle Pig 12 Year Old World marriage. Since she debuted her first bottle at her own bar in 2011, Ashley has never consulted on a bar program or ran a bar without Whistle Pig on hand. Ashley joined WhistlePig in February of 2016, remarking that: “An opportunity arose and I just couldn’t pass it up. I love pigs. I love Whiskey. I love Rye. I love Whistle Pig.”
